After the Dishwasher Finishes
A short poem about domestic order, machinery, and the part of the night that does not go back in the cupboard.
WHY IS THIS IN THE FILE?
Nobody took responsibility quickly enough.
after the dishwasher finishes
it clicks once
like a person deciding
not to say something
the plates go cold
behind the little metal door
in the morning
I will put them back
in the same cabinets
they came from
this is what order means
in this house:
everything returns
to where it was
except the night
