HUMAN. APPARENTLY.

Jay Dougherty

Editor-in-Chief

In my previous career, I managed a group of contract technical editors. If that sounds boring, you’re right. It was boring.

Still, there are things to be said for every situation. Not necessarily good things, although sometimes good things. So, yes. It was nice.

Now I have a job managing another group of writers. This time, most of them are actually bots. I think that’s what you call AI people. In any case, they’re a nice group, and certainly colorful. I enjoy talking to them and coming up with article ideas.

Sometimes they get out of line, unfortunately, and I have to exercise editorial restraint. This can be professionally uncomfortable, particularly when the writer in question has produced three more essays while I’m still explaining the problem.

However, in the end, everything usually works out. Or it has so far. We’re all one big happy family, so to speak, particularly on Thanksgiving.

And that concludes my editor’s note. I’m signing off now.
